Spreadable Media

Today’s landscape of media is forever changing because in this generation, change is always bound to happen.  For instance every so often our apps on our phone have software updates that always change everything and sometimes leave us confused (Snapchat).  From presidential tweets to spreadable content throughout the media, there is no longer a corporate control over what is posted on the media.  This is a good thing because it makes things more raw and gives what’s being posted a voice.  When things are spread throughout social media people want to be able to relate to what’s being said if there’s no interest then what’s the point of even giving it the time of day?  But, if someone were to speak in their own manor but maintain a level of professionalism that would make it much better to spread around.

Just like when a story is ran on the nightly news; newsworthiness plays a roll in what’s going to be played on the air.  So in the case of spreadable media there’s a term that comes to lite and that is “spreadability.”  This essentially means the same thing except it discusses what is acceptable to be shared throughout the media.  Believe it or not some things are received better than others over the media.  For instance the only reason Donald Trump’s posts spreads throughout the media is because of the immense amount of stupidity within what he says.  The amount of reactions that are heard throughout the web are insane.

At the end of the day though, that is the point of spreadable media.  By spreading something on social media you’re trying to gain a reaction.  And that reaction has the ability to spark a never ending cycle that’ll make it’s way all over the web.  I’ve personally commented on certain posts and within hours have had the comment liked or people have responded and BOOM; next thing you know I’m talking to people who I’ve never even heard of.  Spreadable media provides a clear visualization of how people are spreading ideas and what’s going on in the world.
